The fourth round of the BEEPS in 2008-2009 covered 11,998 enterprises in 29 countries of Eastern Europe and Central Asia: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, FYR Macedonia, Georgia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia (including Kosovo), Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Tajikistan, Turkey, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan.
The survey was restructured to improve cross-country comparability and to make it compatible with the Enterprise Surveys the Enterprise Analysis Unit of the World Bank has been implementing since 2006 in other regions of the world. There were changes in the questionnaire and methodology.
