The fifth round of the BEEPS in 2012-2016 covered 16,566 enterprises in 32 countries of Eastern Europe and Central Asia: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, FYR Macedonia, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kyrgyz Republic, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Tajikistan, Turkey, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. BEEPS V started in Russia in 2011-2012, covering 4,220 enterprises in 37 regions, followed by most other countries in 2012-2014 and Cyprus and Greece in 2016.
BEEPS V included an Innovation Module, covering product, process, organisational and marketing innovation, as well as management practices in manufacturing enterprises with at least 20 employees (50 employees in Russia).
In Turkey and Ukraine, a Coin Toss Module was implemented, while in Turkey, BEEPS V included a Gender Module.
A report summarising feedback from the managers of firms in 29 transition countries about what they regard as the main improvements – and the remaining challenges – in the business environment that they experience on a daily basis is available here, including country profiles. The BEEPS V dataset was last updated on 23 August 2017. Compared to the version of 5 October 2015, data for Cyprus and Greece were added, variable a3 was corrected for several cases in Russia and a3b for one case in Armenia. Variable a3 is now equal to 1 for capital cities.
